Looije Packing is a company that has now spread over several locations in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland, from Hoeksche Waard and the Rotterdam ports to Poeldijk. The name says it all. Looije Packing specialises in packaging fruit and vegetables.

They are constantly looking for new and better ways to package products. “Because it’s not only the packaging that benefits the quality of the products, so does the packaging process,” says Commercial and Operational Manager, Florian Prins.

The strength of the company lies in the collaboration with logistics parties. For example, Looije Packing sets up shop at companies that play a major role in the logistics chain for products. By sharing the location, they together ensure that fewer transport movements are required. “The approach route from abc westland is so favourable that the location of the Poeldijk branch also contributes to efficient transport. Of course, that’s better for fruit and vegetables, but also for the environment”, says Florian.

In Poeldijk, Looije Packing is located at Varekamp Coldstores, says Florian. “We have a repacking station and a sophisticated car wash there. And that advanced technology makes the difference. Looije Packing machines don’t just wash and brush. The products are also carefully checked with a scanner, which means they are sorted according to size and quality. Unwanted spots are found and dealt with at an early stage. This keeps the fruit good for longer, because we prevent spoilage.”

Florian also talks enthusiastically about the laser machine. This machine burns the logos of the fruit on the products themselves, so that no material is needed for a sticker. Very sustainable!
